1. What is BIOTIN?

BIOTIN is a PhD fellowship program open to anyone interested in doing PhD in the fields of bioengineering and biomedical research. Applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria. Successful applicants will be registered to a PhD program in one of the hosting institutions of BIOTIN (Ä°zmir Institute of Technology, BoÄŸaziçi University and Ä°zmir Biomedicine and Genome Center).

2. How can I apply to the program?

A: The applications will be collected through the online application portal under BIOTIN website (https://biotinhub.com/en/apply).

3. Is there a nationality restriction for candidates wishing to apply for the BIOTIN program?

No, BIOTIN program is open to all nationalities. Applicants from any country including Turkish citizens can apply. However, at the time of the deadline for submission of applications, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Türkiye for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline date.

4. Can I apply if I live in Türkiye?

You may apply if you have not resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Türkiye for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline date.

5. Can I send part of my application/or supporting documents by post or by e-mail?

No, applications and all supporting documents must be submitted electronically through the BIOTIN application portal.

6. Can I change the PhD topic/my preference after submitting my application?

Any change in the application will not be possible after submitting your application.

7. I am about to finish my Ph.D. Can I apply for the BIOTIN?

Yes, you can apply as long as you meet the eligibility criteria listed in the guide for applicants.

8. Can I apply to more than one Marie Curie Actions at the same time?

Yes, you can apply more than one Marie Curie Actions. However, you cannot benefit, at the same time, more than one Marie Curie Actions.

9. I have finished Master but I do not have the diploma from my university yet. Should I upload the provisional certificate?

Yes, you may upload the provisional certificate during the application. If you have been accepted to be funded within BIOTIN, a copy of your diploma has to be sent to the Call Secretariat.

10. I am currently enrolled in a Doctoral Program, but I have not defended my PhD yet. Can I apply?

Yes, applicant who have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree or have not defended his/her thesis by the closing date for applications can apply.

11. Am I eligible if I’m currently a student of one of the host academic institution?

Students from host institutions can apply. However, at the time of the deadline for submission of applications, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Türkiye for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline date.

12. Is there an age limit for application?

No, there is no age limit, but the eligibility criteria have to be met.

13. Is it possible to update my application after the submission deadline?

No, modifications will not be accepted after the call deadline.

14. How the members of the selection committees are selected?

The BIOTIN management team will create specialized panels with the participation of independent external experts. The experts will be chosen among the expert pools of the European Union and the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye (TÜBITAK).

15. Can the fellowship be prolonged?

No, duration of fellowships are fixed which are 48 months.

16. Does the candidate need to cover tuition fees for BIOTIN?

There will be no tuition fees to be paid in the BIOTIN program.

17. What is the procedure to obtain work permit/residence permit?

Once you have signed the contract, you will apply to foreign representative office of Türkiye in the country in which you are present for a residence permit.
