Open Data and Data Management Plans

All the data generated and collected during the BIOTIN program are managed in line with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, in accordance with legislative, ethical and professional codes of the EU and of countries in which the research is undertaken. Data, outputs and results generated are first identified and protected (if needed); only then, exploitation, dissemination and communication measures follow.

BIOTIN ensures the data arising from the research are available to the academic community for academic non-commercial research purposes. The data access is limited to authorized persons only, following the principle “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”. The produced data is only available for reusability to other partners and fellows upon the signature of a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Data is stored in the coordinator’s and implementing partners’ data file servers during project execution, and in an external repository compliant with the EOSC requirements for long-term preservation.

BIOTIN project strives to comply with the open access policy of EU under appropriate licenses while simultaneously preserving commercial secrets of the participating companies and industries.

In terms of data privacy and protection, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (https://gdpr-info.eu/) is the main legal framework for the whole project.

BIOTIN project has a Research Data Management Plan (RDMP) to be updated throughout the project timeline. It includes sources and description of generated data during the project, whether and how it is made accessible, and how data is managed (access, share, preservation).
