The BIOTIN Project Kick-Off Meeting Took Place with the Participation of TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal

The kick-off meeting of The Biomedical Innovation and Technologies (BIOTIN) Project, an EU Horizon Europe MSCA Cofund 2021 project was held with the honor of TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal on October 23, 2023, at the İzmir Institute of Technology campus.

The event, which began with opening speeches of Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Volga Bulmuş, Director of the İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center Prof. Dr. İhsan Gürsel, Vice-Rector of Boğaziçi University Prof. Dr. Gürkan Selçuk Kumbaroğlu, Rector of Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, and President of TÜBİTAK Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, concluded with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement among project implementing partners.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal emphasized the importance of qualified human resources and noted that 31 institutions came together within the scope of the BIOTIN project to train 10 doctoral students. He also stated that a similar model could be adopted on a national basis. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal said, "When we talk about risks and problems, we see how unforgiving and unfair our region is. That's why we need to be stronger, and that strength comes from science and technology. The more power you have, the more your voice is heard."

IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran stated that they would continue, with all their energy, to be a companion to all of the nation’s projects during the period known as the "Century of Türkiye," celebrating the 100th year of the Republic.

Within the project aimed at increasing innovation and entrepreneurship in the biomedical and bioengineering field and training qualified human resources, doctoral students wishing to conduct biomedical and bioengineering research will receive fellowship support for 48 months. In the BIOTIN program conducted by İzmir Institute of Technology in collaboration with Boğaziçi University and the İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, 10 researchers awarded with BIOTIN fellowships will have the opportunity to be admitted for doctoral education and conduct cutting-edge research in these institutions.
